Save the Wheelcovers for Shows | Part 2

Greetings, Imperialists.

My idea of installing wire wheels on my Imperial to preserve the original wheel covers and the bias-ply-appearing tires for national events is abandoned. I had no idea what a set of true wire wheels cost. Wow.

Now, I'm looking for a set of original steel wheels for the '68 Crown; just four will suffice. I have found a set at a salvage yard, but, again, the cost is surprising me at $115 each. My brother said I could have the wheels on his defunct 1981 Imperial.

Question: Are the 1981 15" steel wheels interchangeable with 1968 15" steel wheels?

When I finally get a second set of wheels, I'll use wire wheel covers with them to run the touring radial tires. I'm very pleased with the look of the mid-70's wire wheel covers, and I found a very nice set on eBay last week. I put them on the '68 Crown to have a look.

I learned that the 1981 Imperial wheels will not fit a 1968 Imperial. Not surprising, they are two very different automobiles. The '81 Imperial's bolt configuration is 5 x 4.5", '68's are 5 x 5".
