1956 Imperial 8 Pass - 2 or 3 speed?

Post by pcmartin »

I believe that 1955 Imperial 8 Passenger Sedans had the 2 speed - did Imperial switch to a three speed along with the 345cid introduction? Attached is a picture of the transmission push button arrangement in a 1956 Imperial 8 Passenger - is this indicative of just 2 speed arrangement or both 2 and 3 speed trans?
Thank you.

If I recall correctly the change from 2 speed to 3 speed was made mid year on the 1956 models. Was easy to spot, just count the buttons!

Does anyone have a source of information on 1956 Imperial vin numbers? I cannot seem to find one any place. Just knowing the serial number range would be helpful.
