Removing switches from bezel for map light/antenna

Post by Anixon »

This applies to 1961-63. The backs of the switch wells in the bezel have a silicon square which is held in place by small bends made in the edges of the pot metal wells that are part of the bezel. I need to remove the broken map light switch to swap in a good one. Does anyone have experience in how to do this? Is there a way to unbend the points on the back of the well? Or should I just break the silicon square out, straighten out the bends in the well, insert the new switch/silicon square, and make new bends in the well edge? Attached is a photo of what I'm talking about, with arrows pointing to a few of the points where the well has bend in the edge to hold the silicon square in place.
