can you go thru the back seat to get into the trunk and unlock it from inside

Maybe, not sure. On the 59 the latching mechanism is totally not accessible anyway. With the huge rear AC unit no way possible even.

Not yet, but one can see it in action online at utube videos of it in action.

time to get a lock smith to look at it

Car is non op, locksmith wants $150 service call plus labor. Never going to happen. Even if I bust something, I am still ahead.
If I recall the glove box and the trunk are the same key, and it is easy to remove the glove box lock and take it to a locksmith.

On my '56 the glove box & trunk key is the same. Spray in & around the push button. The button was stuck on one of my parts cars, initially I thought it was locked.

thats true good idea on taking the glove box lock to a lock smith

I done just that on my last 59. Problem is these days, NO LOCKSMITH will even look at it and make a key. I had to send it off to Kansas City area, 1000 miles away. Seems to becoming a lost art with modern locks taking over
