1974 "Chrysler" Imperial
Interesting thing I noticed about the 1974 LeBaron I bought from the Gesswein auction - the title (from 2014 when Gesswein purchased it) says the make is Chrysler and the model is Imperial. I know that from 1955-75 Imperial was its own marque, and read on The Wikipedia that Chrysler had even sent out notification to all 48 states that beginning in 1955 Imperial would now be registered as a separate make. And you would think that would be pretty well established by 1974, but I guess someone "didn't get the memo" in this instance.

That's interesting. My guess the car likely was an Imperial when new, but somewhere along it's life someone switched it to Chrysler when getting a new title.

That's what I'm thinking. Going to see if I can switch it back when I register it, but not a huge deal if I can't.
My insurance card says Imperial LeBaron at least (because that's what I told them )

And actually I never knew that until earlier this year after joining some Facebook groups on Imperials.
But as I said to a friend, now that I own one I'm going to be a total snob about it - iT's NoT a ChRySlEr

lol - I'm trying not to be one of those guys.
Honestly I cannot remember if I had it registered as a Chrysler or Imperial... will have to go check the title now.

Just verified, both my titles show Imperial as the make.

Mine was funny as well, Utah title shows, MAKE is Imperial, MODEL is Chrysler. Also lists it as a four door wagon! I don't recall If I corrected that or not when I titled it in Texas

Hmmm...makes mine even stranger.ImperialAtom wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 11:05 am Just verified, both my titles show Imperial as the make.
I had noticed that Gesswein listed all theirs as "Chrysler Imperial" for the auction, which being a long time dealer you'd think they would know better. Although I guess since it's not something well known amongst the general populace, going by "Chrysler Imperial" probably makes a better search term.
Doubt there's an easy way to find out since even Carfax only has data on 1981 and newer vehicles, but it would interesting to see how the previous titles on mine were rendered.
