Ruby Gets Started on Repaint

Post by DonFromTexas »

Rubys old, yeah 61 year old, paint job badly needed renewed. She is in the paint shop getting ready to become "Ravishing Ruby" in the near future. This is my third 59 Imperial, I just love them!

Is that paint remover or is that the new paint going on? If it's the new paint, you should ask for your money back. :)

Coming off of course. Original lacquer that was very hard. It appears they originally primed it a reddish primer, then a gray sealer, then the ruby lacquer..

Her seat and interior material came yesterday from SMS. Now the upholstery can start, going back to absolute original of course.

Her drivers door and front fender were really bad, so I found some like new ones in a junk yard. Got her new door on today, looking a lot more like a car again!
She had a high quality engine and transmission overhaul - 15 years ago. I pulled the distributor and oil pump drive gear from the camshaft, and with a 12 inch 5/16 allen wrench in a drill, reached down and ran the oil pump for a while today, filling up he pump, filter, and oil galleys. Now when I start it everything will have fresh oil;

What was wrong with the previous door? Rust or too many dents?

My 57 engine is getting tuned up now.. hope to have it back soon to drive around and enjoy the spring. I'm in a very tough spot - I look out in my garage and there's nothing - not one car right now. :(

Yeah, the door was dented and rusted badly, and I was able to find a good door to replace it. Progress is still being made, here are some recent photos. That Deep Ruby Metallic is absolutely beautiful, finished off with the factory special ordered Spanish Silver it will be very stunning to see. Every bit of chrome has been in the chrome shop for new chrome!

Paint looks beautiful.

That last rusty picture scares me. That type of rust makes me run away as I don't have anyone I trust to ever repair such damage.
